Clara E. Nunes

Clara E. (Vierra) Nunes, 88, of Middletown, RI, died on Wednesday, February 11, 2015. She was the wife of 60 years to the late Emil F. Nunes, Jr.Born in Middletown, RI in 1926, she was the daughter of the late Louise B. (Leander) and Henry R. Vierra and the step-daughter of the late Antone Rodrigues.She is survived by her son, Robert E. Nunes and his wife Linda of Florida; her daughter, Karen A. Nunes of New Hampshire; four grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, a great-great-grandson, and many nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Anthony H. Vierra and Mary C. Oliveira.Clara worked at General Electric in Newport and Warwick for 30 before retiring. After retiring in 1986, she started volunteering at Newport Hospital. She enjoyed knitting, baking and playing Bingo. Calling hours will held on Tuesday, February 17, 2015 from 4-7 pm in Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, RI.Her funeral will be held on Wednesday, February 18, 2015 at 10 am from the funeral home, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 am in Jesus Saviour Church, Broadway and Vernon Avenue, Newport, RI. Burial will follow in Newport Memorial Park, Middletown, RI.In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Middletown Rescue Wagon Fund, 239 Wyatt Road, Middletown, RI 02842.
