Clara Lillian Silvia Benevides, 86, of 2356 East Main Road, Portsmouth, RI died Thursday, January 5, 2006 at Newport Hospital, Newport, RI. She was the wife of the late Manuel M. Benevides.Born in Newport, Rhode Island on September 7, 1919, she was the daughter of the late Jesse and Amelia Nunes Silvia.Mrs. Benevides was a communicant of St. Anthonys Church and a member of their Womens Guild. She enjoyed bowling and playing bingo at both the Newport and Middletown Knights of Columbus.She is survived by her children Robert Benevides Sr.and his wife Frances of Portsmouth, RI, Joanne Garcia and her husband Manuel of Portsmouth, RI and Lorraine Carvalho and her husband John of Freetown, MA, her brothers Manuel Silvia of Covina, CA, and Joseph Silvia of Portsmouth, RI, her sisters Ann Reynolds of Middletown, RI and Emily Mathias of Portsmouth, RI, seven grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren.She was the sister of the late William Silvia, Mary Raposa, Josephine Perry, Millie Viera and Maryanne Silvia. Her funeral will be held on Monday, January 9, 2006 at 9:00AM from the Connors Funeral Home, 55 West Main Road, Portsmouth, with a Mass of Christian burial at 10:00AM in St. Anthonys Church, 2836 East Main Road, Portsmouth. Burial will be in St. Columba Cemetery in Middletown.Calling hours will be held on Sunday, January 8, 2005 from 4-8PM in the Connors Funeral Home.
