Portsmouth, RI - Clifton Morrel, 73, of 29 Linda Avenue, Portsmouth, RI, died Wednesday, March 28, 2001 at Veterans Administration Hospital, Providence, RI.He was the husband of Charlotte Gagnon Morrel. Born in Fall River, MA on March 18, 1928, he was the son of the late John and Esther Covel Morrel.Mr. Morrel had worked as a meat cutter for New England Poultry of Fall River, MA, Public Market of Fall River, MA, and for Stop and Shop in Fall River, MA, Somerset, MA, and Middletown, RI, retiring in 1990, after 47 years of service. Prior to his military service, Mr. Morrell was a Merchant Marine. He was a Veteran of the US Army, serving during the Korean Conflict, and had been the recipient of the Korean Service Medal with 4 Bronze Service Stars. He then joined the Army Reserves and served until retirement in 1988. Mr. Morrel earned his black belt 2nd degree in Tai Quon Do, Karate, and Judo. He was an avid gardener and hunter and enjoyed carpentry and wood working. Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons Clifton Morrel Jr. of Fall River, MA and Rene Morrell US Army Sgt of Portsmouth, RI, three daughters, Winona Crow of Newport, RI, Shanoa Haynes of Alexis, NC, and Priscilla Morrel of Portsmouth, RI and nine grandchildren. Funeral services will be held on Monday evening, April 2, 2001, at 8:00PM, in the Connors Funeral Home, 55 West Main Road, Portsmouth.Burial will take place in the family lot in Newport Memorial Park, Howland Avenue, Middletown, on Tuesday, April 3, 2001, at 1:00PM.
