Little Compton, RI - Clyde Bertrand, 78, of 196 Colebrook Road Little Compton, formerly of Newport, died Sunday, February 13, 2005 at home after a short battle with cancer.He was the husband of Joan L. Cameron Bertrand. Born in Orangefield, TX on September 12, 1926, he was the son of the late Alcide and Bellzea Guidry Bertrand. Mr. Bertrand served in the United States Navy during the Korean War. After 6 years in the Navy, Clyde settled in Newport. He was the owner and operator of the Sunoco gas station on Spring Street in Newport and later, the owner and operator of the Exxon gas station at 2 Mile Corner in Middletown. For the last 15 years, he was the service manager for Power Equipment Company of Attleboro, MA. He was initiated into the St. Pauls Masonic Lodge in 1962 and was a 32 degree Mason. In additon to the Masons, he was a member in good stading in the Kolha Grotto, the Shriners and the Scottish Rite, he was past master in St. Pauls Lodge #14 three times, he had been involved with the DeMolay, including serving as DeMolay Dad, he was a member of the Eureka Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star in Portsmouth and the Elks Lodge. Besides his wife of 53 years he is survived by his son David A Bertrand of Fall River, MA, two daughters Barbara A. Bertrand Randall of Danbury, CT, and Linda D. Bertrand of Portsmouth, RI, three grandsons Andrew D. Bertrand of Windsor, VA, Timothy A. Bertrand of New Bern, NC, and Bryan D. Randall of Danbury, CT, his step grandson Kyle T. Brewington of New Bern, NC, two great grandchildren, two sisters Bessie Lange of Vidor, TX, and Nancy Foreman of Orange, TX, and many nieces nephews.He was the brother of the late Joseph Bertrand, Lawrence Bertrand, Violet Bertrand and Edith Bertrand.His funeral will be held on Saturday, February 19, 2005, at 9:00AM in Emmanuel Church, 42 Dearborn Street, Newport. Burial will be in Middletown Cemetery in Middletown. Donations in his memory may be made to the Hospice Outreach, 502 Bedford Street, Fall River, MA 02820 or to St. Pauls Masonic Lodge, Wyatt Road, Middletown, RI 02842.
