Newport, - Cornelius M. Harrington, 78, of 33B DeBlois Street, Newport, formerly of 49 Lee Avenue, Newport, died Thursday, November 6, 2003, at Roger Williams Medical Center, Providence, RI. Born in Newport, RI, on April 8, 1925, he was the son of the late Cornelius and Bertha Mae Lang Harrington. Mr. Harrington worked for his father, who owned Harringtons Bakery before and after his return from the service. He served three and a half years in the Army, a year and a half in Alaska, as a sergeant and as a company baker. After his fathers retirement in 1954 he owned Harringtons Baker for three years, then worked for the Department of Public Works for six years, for the Newport Shipyard and also at the Main Post Office in Newport for ten years as a custodian. His last job was as a watchman at the Breakers in the summer of 1980. Mr. Harrington published two articles on baseball for Newport This Week, edited by John Pantelone. He is survived by three sisters Bertha Reposa of Portsmouth, RI, Theresa Silveria of Vero Beach, FL, and Evelyn Rouse of Lakewood, CA. A graveside service will be held on Friday, November 14, 2003, at 11:00 AM in Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 301 South County Trail, Exeter. Arrangements are by the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport.
