Cosimo "Gus" Granitto, 90, of Middletown died Wednesday, March 25, 2015, at his home surrounded by his family. He was the husband of Laura (Farello) Granitto. Born on March 21, 1925 in East Harlem, NY, he was the son of the late Domenick and Elizabeth (Filippelli) Granitto. He graduated from NYU with a BS in Accounting. Gus served honorably in the United States Army during World War II. He worked as a tax accountant for International Paper Co. in New York City for many years. He was an avid New York Yankees fan and was very proud of his Italian heritage. Gus was a dedicated husband, father and grandfather. He was loved by all who knew him.Besides his wife of 62 years, he is survived by his children, Gary Granitto of Pittsburgh, PA and Laurie Holbrook and her husband Hank of Newport, RI, his brother Jimmy Granitto of Albany, NY and his grandchildren, Lauren Veno and her husband Jason Veno of Darien, CT and Jillian Holbrook of Washington, DC.He was the brother of the late Victoria Granitto.Calling hours will be held on Friday, March 27, 2015, from 2-5 and 7-9pm in the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport.His funeral will be held on Saturday, March 28, 2015, at 10:00am, from the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00am, in St. Marys Church, Spring Street, Newport.Burial with Military Honors will be held on Monday, March 30, 2015, at 9:30AM in Rhode Island Veteran's Memorial Cemetery, 301 South County Trail, Exeter, RI.Flowers are welcome and memorial donations in his memorial may be made to Disabled Veteran's of America, PO Box 14301, Cincinnati, OH 45250-0301.
