Newport, RI - Dan Edwards Jr., 68, of 87 Girard Avenue, Newport, RI, died Monday, August 7, 2006 at Newport Hospital, Newport, RI. He was the husband of Naomi Edwards of Ft. Worth, TX. Born in New Orleans, LA, on November 18, 1937, he was the son of the late Dan and Agnes Watkins Edwards.Mr. Edwards served in the United States Army. He was a Katrina survivor who came to the Newport area in August of 2005. He worked in construction and dredging in the New Orleans area until he was injured on the job and had to retire. Besides his wife he is survived by his daughters Vanessa Collins of Bossier, LA, Nicole Edwards of Ft. Worth, TX, Shaw Afful of Atlanta, GA, Tonja Kuykendall of San Antone, TX, and Malaika Edwards of Shreveport, LA, his brother Russel Edwards of Ft. Worth, TX, his sisters Linda Hill of New Orleans, LA, and Agnes Mercadal of Bossier City, LA, eleven grandchildren, five great grandchildren and his caring friends Fredlin Bennett, Jean Littlefield, Arthur Cabral, Elsie G. Henry and Claudia Edwards. He was the father of the late Dan Edwards III. A Memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 12, 2006, at 2:00PM, in the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport.
