David Anderson, Jr

Newport, RI - David Andy Anderson, Jr., 79, of 11 Appleby Street, Newport, RI, died Saturday, February 23, 2008 at Newport Hospital, Newport, RI. He was the husband of Julianna Monteiro Anderson. Born in Gay Hill, Texas on March 2, 1928, he was the son of the late David and Pearl Eldridge Anderson. Mr. Anderson served in the United States Navy from 1945 to 1975, during World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War. He also worked at Electric Boat at Quonset Point as a pipe fitter for many years, retiring in 1982. He was a member of the Newport Elks Lodge, where he played softball and he enjoyed to travel. Besides his wife of 55 years, he is survived by his children, Michael Monteiro, Robert Anderson and Nathaniel Anderson all of Newport, RI, Jeffery Anderson and his wife Marie of Middletown, RI, Cheryl Bryant of Charleston, SC, Toni Taylor of Orlando, FL and Laura Anderson of Newport, RI, twenty eight grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren and a host of special people in his life, Chief Brooks, Brenda Rorie, Aquanette Bearden, Dee. L. Anderson, Robert McBride, Travon Anderson, Alyce Manville, Cherrelle Brooks, Treon Taylor, DShea Taylor, Earl Taylor, Elijah Keesee, Denise Keesee and Lola Washington.He was the brother of the late Learen Anderson, Mack Anderson, Charlie Bearden, Raymond Bearden, Maurice Bearden, Laura Brooks and Ruby Harris. His funeral will be held on Saturday, March 1, 2008, at 1:00pm in Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport. Burial will be private.Calling hours will be held on Friday, February 29, 2008, from 2-4 and 7-9 in the funeral home.
