David William Johnson passed peacefully at Charlton Hospital, MA, on Friday evening, May 31,2024.
David was a devoted Grandfather raising his grandson Anthony who he had guardianship of and whom he loved and cared for dearly.
David was born in Pensacola, Florida. 12/7/1954 and as a small child came to Newport with his parents. He was the son of the late Ernest Johnson who was stationed in the Navy, and his mother, Willa L. Johnson.
He attended Newport Public Schools and received a GED later in life.
David and Anthony lived at 90 Gibbs Ave where he was compensated as the maintenance person for that address. He worked all over Aquidneck Island from a fisherman to a chef and was famous for his gumbo.
He leaves to mourn his mother Willa L. Johnson daughter, Lacey M. Johnson, sister, Frances E. Johnson, brother Michael W. Johnson and a favorite nephew, Darrel W. Johnson.
He also leaves many other grandchildren, nephews and nieces, cousins and numerous friends.
Peaceful Moments will be held on June 20, 2024, 5:00pm at Community Baptist Church, 50 Dr. Marcus Wheatland Boulevard, Newport R I.
A Masonic Ritual will be held afterward at the Masonic Hall at 6:00pm, also located on Dr. Marcus Wheatland Boulevard.
