Portsmouth, RI - Dawn C. Mumme, 69, of 55 Almeida Terrace Apt 23, Portsmouth, formerly of 527 Bristol Ferry Road, died Sunday, September 19, 2004 at home.He was the husband of Ann Barry Mumme. Born in Mobile, AL on September 11, 1935, he was the son of the late John Henry and Theresa Ladinier Mumme. Mr. Mumme served aboard many destroyers during his 20 year Navy career, spanning the Korean and Vietman wars. He received the good conduct medal twice for serving in the Korean War, the United Nations service medal, the National defense service medal, the China service medal, the armed forces expeditionary medal and the national dense service medal twice. He served aboard the USS Soley, USS Beale, USS Gearing as well as two tours of duty on Shore Patrol. He ended his twenty year career aboard the Aircraft Carrier USS Roosevelt. After his retirement he worked for Algonquin SNG for fifteen years. Upon their closing he went to work for New England Power Co., retiring again in 1998. He enjoyed fishing and taking nature walks with his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife Ann Mumme of Portsmouth, RI, two sons James Mumme of Tiverton, RI, and Daniel Mumme of Portsmouth, RI, two daughters Terri Lynn Mumme of Newport, RI, and Pamela Kennicut of Pawtucket, RI, a brother Amos Mumme of Mobile, AL, and seven grandchildren. His is preceded in death by two brothers Norwood Geno and Ina Ray Mumme. His funeral will be held on Thursday, September 23, 2004, at 9:00 AM from the Connors Funeral Home, 55 West Main Road, Portsmouth, with a Mass of Christian burial at 10:00 AM in St. Barnabas Church, 1697 East Main Road, Portsmouth. Burial will be in Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Exeter. Donations in his memory may be made to the Home and Hospice Care of Rhode Island, 169 George Street, Pawtucket, RI 02860.
