Portsmouth, - Deolinda M. Ashook, 79, of 32 Basin Street Portsmouth, formerly of 5 Heath Street, Newport, died Wednesday, April 2, 2003 at home.She was the wife of the late Joseph Ashook. Born in Fall River, MA on June 22, 1923, she was the daughter of Frank Mello and Georginna Costa Mello. Mrs. Ashook was an Assembler with General Electric. She had worked at the US Naval Torpedo Station during WW II. She retired from General Electric Plant:The Monowat after over 30 years there. Mrs. Ashook was a communicant of Jesus Saviour Church and was a member of the Vasco deGama Society, Jesus Saviour Rosary Sodality. She was active with the Church Feast and the soup kitchen as well as the Jesus Saviour Bazaar. She was a member of the Portsmouth Senior Center. She is survived by two sons William Mello of Brownwood, TX, and Kenneth Mello of Fall River, MA, three brothers William Mello of Portsmouth, RI, Freddy Mello of Georgia, and John Mello of Middletown, RI, two sisters Mary Ford of Newport, RI, and Julia Morgan of Newport, RI, two granddaughters and two grandsons, and several nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by brothers Joseph Mello, and brother Frank Mello, and a sister Irene Blessinger. Her funeral will be held on Saturday, April 5, 2003, at 9:00 am from the Memorial Funeral Home 375 Broadway Newport, with a Mass of Christian burial at 10:00 AM in Jesus Saviour Church, Broadway And Vernon Avenue, Newport.
