Westport, MA - Diana May (Chapman) Murphy, 72, of Westport, MA, formerly of Newport died on Saturday, September 27th. She was the wife of William J. Murphy. Born in Taunton, MA on February 23, 1942, she was the daughter of the late Charles H. and Grace E. (Vickery) Chapman. Diana loved spending time with her family, gardening, crafting, and cooking. She was also known as the Yard Sale Queen where you could find her most Saturday and Sunday mornings. In addition to her husband of 50 years, she is survived by her children, Rose Marie Holtman of Westport, MA, Charles H. Murphy of Fort Myers, FL, Richard H. Murphy of Newport, RI, Mary F. Khan of Middleton, MA, William J. Murphy of South Kingstown, RI and James A. Murphy of Newport, RI; her brothers, Arnold Chapman of Brandan, MS, Richard Chapman of Newport, RI, Harold Chapman of Ocala, FL and William Chapman of Statesville, NC; her sisters, Barbara Bradshaw of Middletown, RI and Claudia Vars of Bristol, RI; eleven grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.She was the sister of the late Doris Freeze.The family would like to thank all the staff at Gentiva Hospice for their kind compassionate care of Diana during her final months.Calling hours will be held on Thursday, October 2nd from 3 -7 pm at Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, RIA Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, October 3rd at 9 am at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, Spring Street and Memorial Blvd., Newport, RI.
