Newport, RI - Dolores P. Connell, 76, of 6 Record Street, Newport, RI, died Tuesday, August 1, 2006, at home. She was the wife of Donald S. Connell. Born in Newport, RI, on December 17, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Joseph V. and Natalie Kunz Mello.Mrs. Connell worked for the State of Rhode Island in the Unemployment office for 18 years, retiring in 2004. She was a communicant of St. Lucys Church. Mrs. Connell was a member and past president of the Middletown Garden Club, was one of the founders of St. Philomena?s Fair and was a former cub scout leader. In her spare time she enjoyed her bowling league at the former Aquidneck Lanes. Besides her husband of 57 years, she is survived by her son James T. Connell of Portsmouth, RI, her daughters Anita Gifford of Myrtle Beach, SC, and Lisa Connell of Newport, RI, her sister Barbara Bose of Crofton, MD, her grandchildren Michaela Perry and James Kroll both of Newport, RI, Melissa Connell and Jennifer Connell both of Miami, FL, Gilda Lalli of Myrtle Beach, SC, Alexandra Lalli of Middletown, RI, Whitney Connell of Portsmouth, RI and Sean Brady of Newport, RI, and her great grandchildren Jera Kroll, Phoenix Perry and Alyssa Macedo all of Newport, RI, and Kyle Connell and Jalen Connell both of Miami, FL. She was the mother of the late Donald J. Connell and Laurie Connell and the sister of the late Frederick Mello. Her funeral will be held on Saturday, August 5, 2006, at 8:00 am from the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:00 am in St. Lucys Church, 909 West Main Road, Middletown. Burial will be in St. Columbas Cemetery in Middletown.Calling hours will be held on Friday, August 4, 2006, from 5-8pm in the Memorial Funeral Home. Donations in her memory may be made to St. Lucys Church, 909 West Main Road, Middletown, RI 02842.
