Newport, - Donald Andrew Sawyer, 78, of 87 Girard Avenue Newport, formerly of Pittsfield, Massachusetts, died Wednesday, May 21, 2003 at RI Veterans Home Bristol, RI.He was the husband of the late Ruth Betters Sawyer. Born in Pittsfield, MA on July 27, 1924, he was the son of the late Harold and Donalda Larche Sawyer. Mr. Sawyer attended LaSalle University where he received his BS in 1990 and in 1991 became Adjunct Professor. He worked as a dyer for A. H. Rice Co. in Pittsfield, MA for many years. He was also a professional photographer. Mr. Sawyer was a Navy Veteran serving in World War II. He is survived by three sons George Sawyer of Dalton, MA, Robert Sawyer of Dalton, MA, and William Sawyer of Pittsfield, MA, his daughter Dianna M. Cahalen of Middletown, RI, his step daughter Nancy Colbert of Pittsfield, MA, his brother Vincent Sawyer of Wellington, FL, his sister Harriett Sawyer of Pittsfield, MA, and six grandchildren.
