Newport, RI - Donald F. Deglau MGYSGT USMC ret, 77, of 74A Bedlow Avenue Newport, died Monday, January 3, 2005 at Heatherwood Nursing And Subacute Center Newport, RI.He was the husband of Suzanne Olaynack Deglau and celebrated their 54 Wedding anniversary on April 24 , 2004. Born in Newport, RI on October 14, 1927, he was the son of the late Harry C. and Mary Ellen Curran Deglau. Mr. Deglau was in the United States Marine Corp for 31 years, retiring in 1978 as a Master Gunnery Sergeant after serving in the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War. He was a communicant of Jesus Saviour Church. Mr. Deglau was a member of the Newport Knights of Columbus Newport Council 104, and a life member of the Newport Lodge of Elks BPOE, the Verterans of Foreign Wars ; the American Legion and a past member of the Newport Rod and Gun Club. He was an avid freshwater fisherman, raquet ball player and enjoyed playing cards. Besides his wife Suzanne Olaynack Deglau he is survived by three sons Donald Joseph Deglau of Pleasanton, CA, John Francis Deglau of Seleena, CA, and James M. Deglau of Maysville, NC, his daughter Susan Pember of Cincinnati, OH, a brother Harold Deglau of Phoenix, AZ, two sisters Helen Bryant of Vista, CA, and Marion Simmons of Middletown, RI, and four grandchildren.He was the brother of the late Edward DeLaVergne , Theodore Deglau, Elizabeth Deglau and Ruth DeSantis. His funeral will be held on Thursday, January 13, 2005, at 10:00AM in Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport. Burial will be in St. Columba Cemetery in Middletown.
