Donald M. Barnes

Portsmouth, RI - Donald Malcolm Barnes, 74, of, Portsmouth, RI, died Sunday, September 26, 2010 at Heatherwood Nursing and Subacute Center, Newport, RI.He was the husband of Dorothy J. Clowes Barnes. Born in Portland, ME on August 3, 1936, he was the son of the late Malcolm and Edith Smith Barnes.Mr. Barnes served in the United States Navy during Vietnam on December 2, 1965 was the first Squadron in to Vietnam. He was a member of the Americas Cup Constellation Syndicate during the 1960s and enjoyed sailing with his son. He was an avid reader, gardener, and history buff. Mr. Barnes loved nothing more then taking care of and spending time with his grandson. Besides his wife of 45 years, he is survived by his sons Donald K. Barnes and his wife Melody of Portsmouth, RI and his grandson Joshua Patrick Barnes of Portsmouth, RI. At the request of his family all services will be private.
