Donald R. Silvia

Donald R. Silvia, 75, passed away on Thursday, April 16, 2015 at Charlton Memorial Hospital in Fall River, MA after a brief illness. He was born on April 10, 1940 in Newport, RI to the late John R. Silvia and Leona Silvia Nault. Donald grew up in Portsmouth and graduated from Rogers High School in 1958. In 1960, he married his high school sweetheart and devoted wife of 54 years, Priscilla Joy (Bradley) Silvia. Donald and Joy raised their four sons in Portsmouth, RI where they shared many beautiful and long-lasting memories with family and close friends. Donald was the owner and C.E.O. of the former Selected Warehouse in New Bedford, MA. Donald enjoyed sports, especially baseball which he also coached. He was an active volunteer for his sons' boy scouting camping trips. He was also fond of science fiction movies, music and playing on his computer. He will always be remembered as a dedicated, hardworking family man who also enjoyed relaxing in front of the television with sliced cheese and potato chips. Donald is survived by his wife, Priscilla Joy (Bradley) Silvia; his siblings William Silvia, Marie Silvia, Kathy Gibson, Alberic Nault; his children, Donald Keith Silvia and his wife Andrea, Kenneth J. Silvia and his wife Christine, Daniel B. Silvia and his wife Netty; grandchildren, Valerie Palazzo, Amy Fortier, Tara Hardin, Kyle Francis, Troy Silvia, Alicia Silvia, Margot Silvia, Sophie Holdridge, Casey Holdridge, and Gus Holdridge; and five great-grandchildren. In addition to his mother and father, he was preceded in death by his brother, John H. Silvia, and his son, Kevin C. Silvia. Visiting hours will be held on Monday, April 20, 2015 from 4:00 - 7:00 PM in Connors Funeral Home, 55 West Main Road, Portsmouth, RI 02871. His funeral service will be held on Tuesday, April 21, 2015 at 10:00 AM in the funeral home. Burial will follow in Portsmouth Cemetery, Portsmouth, RI.
