Doreen Margaret Mello

Doreen Margaret (Plikunas) Mello Portsmouth, RI- Doreen Margaret (Plikunas) Mello, of 10 Cul de Sac Way, Portsmouth and formerly of 224 Willow Lane, Portsmouth, died on Saturday, November 30, 2013, at home surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of Lyn D. Mello of Portsmouth, RI. Doreen and her twin sister, Corinne, were born in West Hartford, CT, on November 25, 1948. She was the daughter of the late Frank J. and Lucille A. (Maynard) Plikunas. She was also the daughter of the late Leon J. "Big Red" Woodbury. Doreen along with her husband Lyn, were the owners and operators of Mello's Sons Towing for the last 20 years. She and her husband were also the owner and operators of the former A+ Auto Body in Bristol, RI. Doreen had also worked for 10 years at the former GE Plant in Newport and was also the former owner of "Balloons Unlimited". Her greatest passion in life was spending time with her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed many years of working side by side with her husband in their businesses. She was a member of the Rhode Island Towing Association. Doreen and Lyn met in 1962, and were married in 1976. During their courtship, they would attend church socials and dances so they could dance together. She enjoyed fishing, bowling, and long drives with her husband around Newport for both pleasure and business. Her favorite holiday was Christmas. She lived to shop with her daughters, sister and nieces in search of the perfect Christmas gifts for her family. Doreen is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 37 years. She is also survived by her children, Kimberly C. Albro of Portsmouth, Paul F. Mello and his wife Christin of Tiverton, Kristel A. Massarotti and her husband Brian, Antonette L.M. Marshall and her husband John, and Robert A. Mello and his companion Julie O'Loughlin and her beloved dog Nicholas, all of Portsmouth, her son in law David Albro of Tiverton, her grandchildren Brandon Hall, Nathan Hall, Christian Albro, Cody Albro, Halie Lyn Massarotti, John Marshall III, Henry Marshall, Delainey Mello, Caisley Margaret Mello, Averey Dansereau, Briar Dansereau, and her twin sister and best friend, Corinne A. Edenbach and her husband Robert of Portsmouth. She also leaves her sisters in law Margo Mello of New Smyrna Beach, FL, Donna Mello of Pinellas, FL, Denise McGlynn and her husband Frank of Lake Worth, FL, Karen Transue and her husband Fred of Portsmouth, RI, Kim Mello of Newport, RI, Stacy Mello and her husband Henry of Portsmouth, RI and her brothers in law Lyle Antone Mello and his wife Arleen of Clifton, VA and Kevin Mello of Pinellas Park, FL, as well as her extended family of nieces and nephews, including Joseph A. Coleman of Middletown, RI, Stephen P. Coleman, Lisa M. Alves, Tracey C. Alvanas and Edward W. Figueira all of Portsmouth, RI, and many great nieces and nephews and cousins. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, December 6, 2013, at 10AM in St. Barnabas Church, 1697 East Main Road, Portsmouth, RI.
