Doris A. Devol

Newport, RI - Doris A. Dow Devol, 68, of 35 Gould Street, Newport, RI, died Saturday, July 21, 2007 at Newport Hospital, Newport, RI. She was the wife of Donald J. Devol. Born in Newport, RI on September 11, 1938, she was the daughter of the late John and Francine Sprage Dow. Mrs. Devol worked as a dietary aid at the Newport Hospital for 15 years, retiring in 1963. She became a bus monitor for Laidlaw from 1998 to 2003. Mrs. Devol was a member of St. Paul?s Methodist church and was a member of their choir. She was a former Girl Scout Leader for 4 years. Besides her husband she is survived by her daughters Velvet Coite of Newport, RI and Tammie G. Turner of Summerville, SC, her grandchildren Jerome Turner, Francis Turner Jr., Joseph Turner and Grace Turner all of Summerville, SC and several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Robert Sprage, Margaret Gonsalves Yeomans and Georgianna Metcalf. Her funeral will be held on Wednesday, July 25, 2007, at 1:00 pm in Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport. Burial will be in Newport Memorial Park in Middletown.Calling hours will be held Wednesday, July 25, 2007, from 11:30 - 1:00 in the Memorial Funeral Home.
