Dorothy A. (MacDougall) Burgess, 90, of Middletown, RI, passed away on Sunday, April 6, 2014 surrounded by her family at Newport Hospital.She was the wife of the late George J. Burgess.Born in Manhattan, NY on September 6, 1923, she is the daughter of the late John Allen and Mary (Quin) MacDougall.She is survived by her children, her son, and her daughters, Joanne B. McDonough of Middletown, RI; James M. Burgess and his wife Diana of Middletown, RI; and Mary Ellen Vericker and her husband Walter of Watertown, MA; her sister, Grace M. Sears of Howard Beach, NY; her grandchildren, Jacqueleine Burgess, Theresa Burgess, Shannon and her husband Luis Gardell, Meaghan and her husband Steven Schreiner, Kyla John, Ryan McDonough and Madison Burgess; seven great-grandchildren; her daughter-in-law, Denice Burgess; and her dear friend, Dee Colby.She was the mother of the late Gerard and George Burgess and the mother-in-law of the late Patrick McDonough.Mrs. Burgess was an active parishioner of St. Lucy Church. She was a member of Edward King House and the CPO Wives Club as well as past president. She loved nothing more than spending time with her family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Calling hours will be held on Thursday, April 10, 2014 from 4-7 pm in Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, RI.The funeral will be held on Friday, April 11, 2014 at 8 am from Memorial Funeral Home with a Concelebrated Mass of Christian Burial at 9 am in St. Lucy Church, 909 West Main Road, Middletown, RI.
