Dorothy Christine (Pollitt) Russo, 82, died peacefully on Tuesday, October 11, 2016 in Newport, RI.She was the daughter of the late Nicholas W. and Christine (Cordeiro) Pollitt.Born in Newport, RI, Dottie graduated from Rogers High School in 1952 and went on to work at N.E. Telephone and Telegraph Co. for 7 years. She later worked as a teacher's aide for the Newport School Dept., a cashier at Newport Jai Alai and at various island gift shops.Dottie leaves behind her daughters, Christine Homen of Florida, Cynthia Homen and Jill Homen of Rhode Island; her step-children, Julia Russo and Michael Russo of California; her grandchildren, Katelyn Burcak Murphy of Massachusetts and Noah Burcak of New York. She also leaves her brother, Robert and sister-in-law, Ellie Pollitt and nephews, Nick, Bob and Howard, all of Rhode Island.In addition to her parents, Dottie was predeceased by her husband, Joseph G. Russo, her step-son, Mark Russo, and former husband, Donald L. Homen.A memorial gathering will be held on Wednesday, October 19, 2016 from 2:00-4:00 p.m., with a prayer service at 4:00 p.m.in Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, RI.
