Dorothy E. Dugan

Dorothy E. (Keates) Dugan, 87, of Middletown died Friday, October 12, 2012 at Grand Islander Health Care Center of Middletown, RI. She was the wife of the late Martin F. Dugan, Jr., to whom she was married for 40 years.Born in Providence, RI, on March 30, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Nelson and the Ethel (Carrier) Keates of Trowbridge, England and Providence, RI. Mrs. Dugan was a graduate of Mt. Pleasant High School in Providence and worked in the office of the former Bernstein's Clothing in Providence, before coming to Newport area where she lived since 1945. During her early years she was a former Girl Scout leader and volunteered in Portsmouth schools. She was a member o the Portsmouth Methodist Church having served on several committees. She also was a member of the Newport Hospital Auxiliary and the Portsmouth Senior Center.Mrs. Dugan leaves three daughters, Joyce I. Pace of South Dartmouth, MA, Deborah D. Wiant of Portsmouth, RI, and Linda C. Murphy of Redlands, CA and a son Martin F. Dugan III of Waltham, MA; six grandchildren, four great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Dugan was the sister of the late Nelson Keates of Smithfield, the late Ernest A. Keates of Warwick, RI and the late Irene L. Riley of Easton, MA. Calling hours will be held on Saturday, October 20, 2012, from 10-11, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM in the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport. Burial will be in Newport Memorial Park, Middletown. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Memorial Committee of the Portsmouth Methodist Church, 2732 East Main Road, Portsmouth.
