Dorothy E. Lampe Kotze died March 8, 2006 in Portsmouth, RI at the home of her daughter. She was the wife of Albert G. Kotze of 54 Anson Road Portsmouth, RI.Mrs. Kotze was also a past resident of the Sakonnet Bay Manor in Tiverton, St. Elizabeth?s Manor in Bristol and the Grand Islander Health Care Center in Middletown.Mr. and Mrs. Kotze were ten days away from their fifty fifth wedding anniversary.Born in Massapequa, Long Island, NY on July 12, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Earl M. and Nancy Kowinsky Lampe.In 1963 she was one of the first people to undergo open heart surgery.Mrs. Kotze worked as a telephone operator and for a record company pressing records before working in retail at the Macy?s Department Store in NYC. While there she was one of Santa?s helpers in the Macy?s Day Parade. She enjoyed and belonged to a horseback riding club in NY?s Central Park. Having moved many times while Mr. Kotze served in the Navy, she would work for various retailers. When they came to Newport, she worked for Grants Dept Store in Middletown and Fall River. Mrs. Kotze also worked for the former Frasches Bakery and Quality Bakery.She was member of the St. Barnabas Church Women?s Guild and the St. Anthony?s Women?s Guild. Mrs. Kotze also sang with the Navy Choristers and the St. Anthony?s Church Choir. She was a member of the Portsmouth Senior Center Chorus Group, and its Art Class Group and Tai Chi. As a member of the CPO Wives Club she served as an officer.Besides her husband she leaves a son Steven A. Kotze and a daughter Pamela A. Lendrum both of Portsmouth, her son in-law John E. Lendrum of Portsmouth, her brother Paul Lampe of Massapequa, Long Island, NY, four grandchildren Adam Lendrum of Davie, FL, Christen Baker of Newport, RI, Steven Baker of Portsmouth, RI and Johnathan Kotze of Middletown, RI and two great grandchildren Brianna Segerson and Brenden Bagnell both of Newport. She was sister of the late Earl Lampe and Virginia Lampe.Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, March 14, 2006, at 9:00 a.m. from the Connors Funeral Home 55 West Main Road Portsmouth with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in St. Anthony?s Church 2836 East Main Road Portsmouth, RI.
