Bristol, - Dorothy Irene Bowlby, 68, of 7 Fairmount Avenue Bristol, had suddenly on February 27th following a massive aneurysm rupturing in her bas brain while shopping in Newport and had been taken to Newport Hospital. After a CATS Scan as it had appeared she had had a stroke, she was taken to Rhode Island Hospital. Through gracious and wonderful service of Emergency Room and Intensive Care personnel at Rhode Island. Mrs. Bowlby had been maintained on life support equipment until her sons, Richard, Mark and Robert Clarke could fly in from Salt Lake City, Phoenix, AZ, and Tulsa, OK. At midnight on February 28, 2003, Mrs. Bowlby?s family were presence as she peacefully passed away. She was the wife of Richard A. Bowlby. Born in Newport, RI on June 9, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Russell W. and Mabel Eleanor Stone Garrison of Newport and Middletown, RI.Her father had said name her anything but call her ?Irene? which had stuck over the years. Few knew her as Dorothy, just Irene. Mrs. Bowlby had been active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, a member of the Newport Ward, and had been a Boston Temple Ordinance worker with her husband for the last 2.5 years. She had always unselfishly served others and had served many times in music director positions with a great love for music. Mrs. Bowlby had been serving in the Fleet Reserve Association Ladies Auxiliary, Branch #72 as Secretary/Treasurer supportive of her who presently is President of FRA Br. #72. She is survived by her husband Richard A. Bowlby of Bristol, RI, four sons Richard D. Clarke of West Jordan, Utah, Mark S. Clarke of Phoenix, AZ, Robert G. Clarke of Whitefield, OK, and Jeffery Clarke of Stringtown, OK, her daughter Christina Mae Troutman of Coventry, RI, her step-son Michael A. Bowlby of Sturgeonbay, WI, two step daughters Deborah R. Thronton of Sturgeonbay, WI, and Jeanine Emerick of Texas, two brothers William R. Garrison of Greenville, RI, and Lawrence R. Garrison of Garner, NC, two sisters Carol M. Smith and Marie Kent both of Middletown, RI, Twenty six grandchildren and five great grandchildren. The number of extended family and friends Mrs. Bowlby leaves behind is extensive as she had been loved by all. Mrs. Bowlby will not be forgotten in the hearts of so many.She was preceeded in death by her son Jack W. Clarke and her brother James R. Garrison and her sister Shirley Fougere. Her funeral will be held Tuesday, March 4, 2003 at 11:00 AM in the Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter Day Saints, 177 Miantonomi Avenue, Middletown. Burial will be in Newport Memorial Park in Middletown.
