Dorothy J. (Clowes) Barnes, 77, of Portsmouth died Sunday, November 22, 2015 at Grand Islander Health Care Center of Middletown, RI. She was the wife of the late Chief Petty Officer, Donald M. Barnes, USN.Born on August 28, 1938 in Portland, ME, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Violet (Keeney) Clowes.Dorothy grew up in Peaks Island and as a young woman was a dental hygienist and later worked as a home health aide for a visiting nurse service. She led the life of a Navy wife, but remained stationed in Newport with her husband while he was at the Naval War College for his entire career. She is survived by her son Donald Barnes and his wife Melody of Portsmouth, RI, her grandson Joshua Barnes, and her nieces Concetta Richards and Denise Ross of Portland, ME.
