Newport, RI - Dorothy Jane Carr Doherty, 89, of Newport, RI, died Monday, May 30, 2011 at home.She was the wife of the late David Edward Doherty.Born in Dorchester, MA on February 16, 1922, she was the daughter of the late John B. and Mary Coyne Carr.She was a communicant of St. Lucys Church where she was active in the Small Christian Community and the Circle of Friends. She also served as a Eucharistic Minister there and at Newport Hospital. Jane lived at Harbor House on the Point where she enjoyed being the Welcome Lady to new residents. She participated in the many activities there, painting, deck gardening, reading, and walking her much loved dog Gracie. She served as a member of the Literary Volunteers of America, teaching at the Lenthal School. She also was a member of the King House where she took several classes. She also took various painting classes at the Art Association. She is survived by her daughters Annette Pelletier and Patricia Doherty, and her son-in-law Brian Pelletier, all of Newport, her sisters Natalie Hart of Avon, MA, and Marjorie Huerth of Braintree, MA, and her brother Thomas Carr of Hingham, MA, many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grand nephews.She was the foster mother to the late Thomas Keenan and his sister Irene Keenan, and the sister of the late John, Gerard and Donald Carr. Calling hours will be held on Thursday, June 2, 2011, from 4-9pm in the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, RI.Her funeral will be held on Friday, June 3, 2011, at 9:30 am from the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 am in St. Lucys Church, 909 West Main Road, Middletown.Burial will be in Blue Hill Cemetery in Braintree, MA.
