Newport, RI - Dorothy Jean Barker Oakley, 84, of 20 Canonicus Avenue, Newport, RI, died Wednesday, April 21, 2010, at Forest Farm Health Care Center, Middletown, RI.She was the wife of the late Sidney Joseph Oakley.Born in Newport, RI on June 12, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin B. and Helena McCarthy Barker.Mrs. Oakley had most recently worked for the Newport School Department at Sullivan School, but had previously worked for the New England Telephone Business Office, Transcom, and the Newport Motor Inn. She was a 1943 graduate of Rogers High School. Mrs. Oakley served as a General with the Taggert Chapter of the DAR. She was a member of the Art Museum, the Artist Guild, the Quahog Chapter of the NAFCA, the Emblem Club #16, and the Mayflower Society.She is survived by her children, daughter, Mary and Richard Tucker of Lincoln, RI, son, Sidney J., Jr. and Claire Oakley of Newport, daughter, Dorothy Jean and the late Brad Foster of Cincinnati, OH, son, Robert L. and Paddy Oakley of Newport, son, Stephen J. Oakley and his compain Kathy Allison of Newport, her brother Benjamin B. Barker III, nine grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren, and four great-great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her daughter, Leann Oakley, and her grandson, Richard Clay Oakley.A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 22, 2010, at 11:00 am, with family receiving friends from 10:30am to 11:00am in the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport.Burial will be private.Donations in her memory may be made to the Forest Farm Activity Fund, 193 Forest Avenue, Middletown, RI 02842, or to Beacon Hospice, 529 Main Street, Suite 101, Charlestown, MA 02129.
