Dorothy K. Stanley, age 93, of Middletown, died on Friday, February 08, 2013 at John Clarke Nursing Home.Dorothy was born September 27, 1919 in Millville, NJ, daughter of the late Dr. Louis and Marie (Keenan) Kauffmann. She was the wife of the late Richard Stanley.Dorothy graduated from Sacred Heart Academy in Millville, NJ and Rosemont College in Philadelphia. Throughout her career, Dorothy worked in the Barrington School System, at the former Shamrock Cliff Resort and the Viking Hotel. She also volunteered many hours to help others at Newport Hospital, Meals on Wheels, the Middletown Library and the Bradford Russell House in New Bedford, MA. She was proud to be an aide for the late State Senator June Gibbs for many years.She had been a resident of John Clarke Retirement Home for the last 7 years and was previously a resident of "America" on Goat Island.Dorothy and her husband Richard cherished their February retreats to Saint Maarten which she continued after his death, enjoying the friendships they made over the years. Dorothy was a dedicated Red Sox fan and has always had her radio close to her ear during games.She is survived by three daughters: Susan McWhinnie and her husband Henry of Kent, CT, Elizabeth Seveney of Portsmouth, RI, and Marty Stanley of Kansas City, MO; five grandchildren; Chad McWhinnie, Sean McWhinnie and his wife Kelly, Todd McWhinnie, Timothy Seveney and Kirtley Seveney; and three great-grandchildren, Ryan, Katie and Jack; and many devoted nieces and nephews who thought the world of her.She was predeceased by her sisters, Marie Taylor and Dolores Kelley.Funeral services will be private.In lieu of flowers and donations, the family requests that you be generous with your kindness, caring and loving to others.
