Dorothy L. Breen

Dorothy L. Carry Breen, 87, of Lawton Court, Middletown, passed away Thursday, April 23, 2009 at Newport Hospital. She was the wife of the late John F. Breen who passed away in 1995.Born in Newport, RI on March 29, 1922, she was the daughter of the late William R. and Ellen Harrington Carry. Mrs. Breen was a medical transcriptionist at Newport Hospital for over 25 years before retiring. During World War II she worked at the Newport Naval Base Public Supply Department. Having a great interest in sports, she competed in many swimming and volleyball events throughout the state receiving many awards in her earlier years. She also had a great love for animals and enjoyed many hours spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.She is survived by her three children, Janice A. Silvia of Portsmouth, RI, Robert M. Breen and his wife, Patricia of Rangeley, ME, and William R. Breen of East Providence, RI; three grandchildren, Shay Iasimone and her husband, Jim of Portsmouth, RI, Tina Little and her husband, Barry of Portsmouth, RI, and B.J. Silvia and his wife, Cindy of Portsmouth, RI; and five great-grandchildren, Benjamin, Nicholas, and Allysha Little, and Taylor and Corey Dame. Calling hours will be held Monday, April 27, 2009 from 8 am - 10 am followed by a funeral service at 10 am in the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport.Burial will be private.In lieu of flowers, donations in Dorothys memory may be made to the Potter League for Animals, PO Box 412, Newport, RI 02840 or to the Newport Hospital Employee Fund, 11 Friendship Street, Newport, RI 02840.
