Newport, RI - Dorothy Louise Oxx Millington, 89, of Newport, RI, died on Friday, September 30, 2011, at home surrounded by her family.She was the wife of the late Albert Nelson Millington. They were married for 69 years. Born in Newport, RI on December 1, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Edith Boyd Oxx.?Dottie? was a 1939 graduate of Rogers High School and a 1969 graduate of Salve Regina College. She was a school teacher for 17 years at Oliphant School teaching 3rd grade until her retirement in 1988. She also worked for 20 years at the Mile Post Restaurant and as a file clerk at the Torpedo Station. During the 1950s she was the owner of the La Forge Restaurant. She was a member of Holy Cross Church, AARP, the Newport Preservation Society, the Newport and Middletown Senior Center, the Newport Art Museum, the Newport Library and the Rhode Island and Aquidneck Island Teachers Association. Dorothy was a volunteer with Meals on Wheels, a former member of St. Georges Church where she served on the Altar Guild and Vestry. Dorothy was known for her generosity and sense of style, her love of travel, German Shephards and Lincoln Continentals. She enjoyed the beach and the theatre but most of all she loved spending time with her nieces, nephews and grand nieces and nephews. Dottie and her husband, Al, had a second family and home with the Crowleys and everyone at Christies Restaurant for many happy years. She is survived by her brother Charles Oxx, and his wife Emily of Newport, RI, her niece Valerie Piner and her husband Rick, niece Sandy Derecktor, and her great nieces and nephews, Liza Heapes and her husband Josh and their daughter Quinn Dorothy Heapes, Charles Koppelson, Casey Koppelson, Margo and Emily Derecktor, and Albert and Elizabeth Millington.She was the aunt of the late Charlene Oxx. Her funeral will be held on Tuesday October 4, 2011 at 11:00am in Hambly Funeral Home, ?Brick House?, 30 Red Cross Avenue, Newport.Burial will be in Braman Cemetery in Newport.Calling hours will be held on the morning of the service from 10-11am in the funeral home.
