Dorothy M. Cabral

March 28, 1926 — November 2, 2015

Dorothy M. Cabral, 89, of Newport, died Monday, November 2, 2015 at Grand Islander Health Care Center in Middletown, R.I. Mrs. Cabral was born March 28, 1926 in Newport, R.I. She was the daughter of the late John F Snyder and the late Pauline (Martins) Snyder Bellavance. She was married to the late David Cabral for 66 years. In addition to her husband, she is preceded in death by her son David Cabral Jr., her two sisters Charlotte O'Flaherty and Marion Reynolds, and nephews Mark Reynolds, John Reynolds, and great nephew Patrick Murphy.A true Newport girl, growing up on Colonial Street, she could be found working at her father's restaurant after school, attending Mass at St Joseph's on Broadway, taking in a movie at the Opera House on Touro Street, roller staking at the Rink on West Main Road and sunbathing at Easton's Beach in the summer. She lived many years in Island Park, Portsmouth, R.I. with her husband Dave and son Butchie. In the late 1980's she moved back to her City by the Sea. Dorothy was retired from General Electric after 30-years of service at the Thames Street manufacturing site. After retirement, she continued to enjoy reading, successfully solving the most difficult of crossword puzzles, watching old movies, daily walks to the Point or up to Broadway to shop; and combing Flea Markets with her husband in search of treasured pieces. She loved animals, especially dogs, and was an expert of the many species of birds that visited her back yard. Her Chocolate Chip cookies were considered the most coveted gift for any occasion. The secret ingredient, her love-instilled baking, cannot be replicated. She was a loving and dedicated daughter, wife and mother. A favorite aunt, and family matriarch to many of her nieces, nephews, greats and great-greats. Through her kindness, the best of everyone she met was highlighted.
