Dorothy M. Casey

Dorothy "Dot" Myrtle (Callahan) Casey, age 90, of Portsmouth, died Saturday, September 22, 2012 at the Newport Hospital, Newport, RI. Mrs. Casey was born on July 13, 1922, in Fall River, MA. She is the daughter of the late William A. and the late Myrtle E. (Stevenson) Callahan. She was married to the late John F. Casey for 57 years. Mrs. Casey attended Mt. Auburn School of Nursing in Auburn, MA. She was a practical nurse, serving as a private duty nurse at the Willow Brook Manor Nursing Home in Portsmouth, RI, the Forest Farm Nursing Home in Middletown, RI, and also for Harold Gertrude Vanderbilt for twelve years. She was known as a care giver throughout her life. Mrs. Casey enjoyed her family and grandchildren and was a member of the St. Paul's Episcopal Church. She was an avid reader and an active participant at the Portsmouth Senior Center.She is survived by her two sons, John S. Casey and his wife Susan (Turner) of Portsmouth, RI, and Frederic W. Casey and his wife Tania (Moore) of Pell City, Al; her five grandchildren, Sean Casey of Portsmouth, RI; Christopher Casey of Mt. Pleasant, SC; Steven Casey of Portsmouth, RI; Stephanie August of Portsmouth, RI, Michael Casey of Singapore, and Scott Krueger of Athens, GA; and six great grandchildren, Morgan Casey, Jack Casey, Liam Casey, Riley Michaud, Ryan Casey, and Hayden August. She was predeceased by her son, Robert F. Casey.A memorial service will be held at 10:00 am, on Wednesday, September 26, 2012, at the United Congregational Church, 524 Valley Road, Middletown, RI with Rev. Joseph Tripp officiating. Burial will be private in the Trinity Cemetery, Portsmouth, RI.In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in her memory may be made to the James L.
