Dorothy Marie Favano

Dorothy N. Favano, 91, of Portsmouth, RI and Largo, FL joined her beloved husband Joe in heaven on, April 16, 2016. She was born February 6, 1925 in Greenwich, CT to the late James K. and Marguerite (Minor) Newman.She was the wife of the late Joseph C. Favano for 60 years after meeting him at the YMCA dance "the Casbah Club" and they continued to dance, becoming avid square dancers in their 40's.She graduated from Greenwich High School in 1942 where she was #2 in her class and was a member of the National Honor Society and Thespian Society. Her love of the stage included acting with the Drama Club to amateur acting in Greenwich. She graduated from Merrill Secretarial School and worked in NYC and Greenwich as a secretary and office manager throughout her career.Her enjoyment of attending a Girl Scout camp led her to become a counselor and a Scout Leader in Old Greenwich for many years. The family spent summers at a YMCA camp in New Hampshire.Dorothy's favorite expression "If it's not illegal, immoral, or fattening Go For It, Don't worry about the fattening," led her to begin parasailing in her 80's.She leaves her children; Joseph C. Favano Jr. of Norwalk, CT and Susan F. Cooper and her husband Garrett Sullivan of Portsmouth, RI.A memorial Mass will be held Wednesday, April 27, at 10:00AM at St, Clement's Church, Stamford, CT.
