Dorothy Marie Silveira

PORTSMOUTH, RI - Dorothy Marie Silvia Silveira, 83, of 15 Reise Terrace, Portsmouth, RI, died Thursday, September 22, 2005 at home. She was the wife of Francis Joseph Silveira.Born in Portsmouth, RI on October 24, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary Cory Silvia.Mrs. Silveira worked as a part-time clerk at the former Carrellas Pharmacy on Thames Street in the late 1940s and early 1950s. She then worked as a clerk at the Newport Quality Bakery until 1960 before becoming a homemaker. Mrs. Silveira was very family oriented and loved cooking, especially for her family. She was an active member of the Patrons of Husbandry and held an office in the Portsmouth Grange, the Newport County Pomona Grange, The Rhode Island State Grange, and served as a delegate to The National Grange. She cooked for and participated in the Portsmnouth Grange Suppers for many years. Mrs. Silveira was a communicant of St. Anthonys Church where she also helped cook for the St. Anthonys Feast.Besides her husband of 58 years, she is survived by her son Joseph Lopes of Portsmouth, RI, her daughter Sharon Costa of Tiverton, RI, her brothers Richard Silvia of Newport, RI, and Douglas Silvia of Portsmouth, RI, her sisters Jean Ramsey of Morehead City, NC, and Allene Reynolds of Newport, RI, seven grandchildren Laurie Goyette of Portsmouth, RI, Susan Ring of Middletown, RI, Frank Lopes of Newport, RI, Michael Lopes of Warren, RI, Amy Jo Lopes of Warren, RI, Melissa Murphy of Fall River, MA, and Kerri Murphy of Bristol, RI, nine great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Her funeral will be held on Monday, September 26, 2005, at 9:00am from the Connors Funeral Home, 55 West Main Road, Portsmouth, followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 10:00AM, in St. Anthonys Church, 2836 East Main Road, Portsmouth.Burial will be in St. Columbas Cemetery in Middletown.Calling hours will be held on Sunday, September 25, 2005 from 5-8PM in the Connors Funeral Home.Memorial donations may be made to St. Anthonys Building Fund, 2836 East Main Road, Portsmouth, RI 02871.
