Portsmouth, RI - Dorothy May Cook Russell, 88, of Aquidneck Atria, Portsmouth, RI, died Thursday, November 19, 2009 at Charlton Memorial Hospital, Fall River, MA.She was the wife of the late Glenn W. Russell.Born in Fall River, MA on July 28, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Willard R. and Mary Wright Cook.Mrs. Russell was a member of the Portsmouth Auxiliary, was active at the Edward King House in Newport where she took painting lesson for many years. She loved painting and many of her paintings where shown publicly. She is survived by her son Glenn W. Russell, Jr. of Portsmouth, RI, her daughter Beth R. Smart of Wilton, CT, her grandsons Michael E. Russell, Kevin T. Russell and Matthew F. Russell and her great grandson James M. Russell.She was the sister of the late Peter E. Cook, Lillian M. Gray and Willard R. Cook, Jr. A private graveside service will be held at Portsmouth Cemetery, Turnpike Avenue, Portsmouth.In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to Portsmouth Volunteer Fire Dpt.
