Portsmouth, RI - Douglas A. Blair, 61, of Park Avenue, Portsmouth, RI, died at home Monday on December 26, 2011. He was born in San Diego, CA, the son of the late James and Helena Douglas Blair. Mr. Blairs service in the Army included a tour in Vietnam, where he was heavily decorated. Mr. Blair, a helicopter gunner, earned among his many medals were the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry, the Bronze Star, and the Army Commendation Medal.After the Army, Doug worked as a commercial production painter until his retirement. He remained active in veterans organizations and contributed his time to support A Wish Come True. Doug is survived by his daughter Shannon Cronin, her husband Sean and grandson Randal Adams of Winter Park, FL. He also leaves his two sisters Pat and her husband, Dow Anthony of Chesapeake, VA and Joan and her husband Dick Swanson of Portsmouth; his brother Charles Blair of Newport, and his sister in law Dorothy Blair of Bucksport, ME as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. Doug also leaves his dear friends Dorothy Parker and Rick Sullivan both of Portsmouth and many treasured friends and neighbors.Doug was predeceased by his brother Master Sergeant James Blair in 2009. Funeral services will be held Friday, January 6, 2011, at 9:15am from the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, RI with a graveside prayer service at 10am in the Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 301 South County Trail, Exeter, RI.Relatives and friends are invited to attend.Calling hours are respectfully omitted.
