Douglas David Butera, 62 of Bristol, RI, died on Wednesday, August 24, 2011, at Rhode Island Hospital in Providence.Born in Fall River, MA on January 3, 1949, he was the son of Vincent butera of Barrington, RI and the late Emma Matthews Butera.Mr. Butera graduated from Rhode Island College with a degree in teaching. He was a school teacher for the Massachusetts School System. Douglas loved boating, reading, working on cars, going to Prudence Island during the summer for cookouts and spending time with his nieces and nephews. One of his favorite places was Walden Woods and he was a huge supporter of efforts to save the woods. He was a very kind person, who cared deeply about others before himself.Besides his father, he is survived by his brothers, Stephen Butera and his wife Felecia of Bristol, RI and David Butera of Barrington, RI, his nephew David Butera of Bristol, RI, his niece Brittany Butera of Barrington, RI, and his nephew Bryan Butera of Barrington, RI.Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, August 31, 2011, from 5-8 in the Connors Funeral Home, 55 West Main Road, Portsmouth, RI.His funeral will be held on Thursday, September 1, 2011, at 11:00am in the Connors Funeral Home.Burial will be in North Burial Ground in Bristol, RI.Donations in his memory may be made to the American Cancer Society of Rhode Island, 931 Jefferson Blvd., Suite 3004, Warwick, RI 02886 or to Walden Woods Project, Attn: Membership, 44 Baker Farm, Lincoln, MA 01773.
