Dr. Douglas G. Wilson

Dr. Douglas G. Wilson, 63, of Newport, died Wednesday, October 9, 2013, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Flint, Michigan on February 10, 1950, he was the son of John and Mary Ellen (McBee) Wilson of Hilton Head, SC. Doug grew up in Michigan and achieved his medical degree from the University of Michigan in 1976. Upon completing his residency at the University of Rochester he moved to Newport to begin his career as an OB/GYN. Dr. Wilson generously served this community for over 30 years, caring for countless numbers of women and their families and providing access to healthcare for those less fortunate. When not dedicating his time to his patients, Doug could be found with his nose in a book or cooking for his family and friends. Along with his parents, he is survived by his best friend and mother of his three children, Kathleen M. Tirrell of Portsmouth, RI, his children, Kathryn Wilson of New York, NY, Julia Wilson of Boston, MA, and Anna Wilson of Portsmouth, RI. Additional family members include Alexis Wilson of Washington, DC, Robert Lanni and his wife Cristina of Narragansett, RI, Sarah Snyder and her husband William of Philadelphia, PA, his sister Beth Wilson of Hilton Head, SC, his grandchildren Meghan, Justin, Tyler and Brooklyn, and his longtime devoted office manager and friend Megan Surber. He was preceded in death by his stepson, Eric W. Lawrence. Calling hours will be held on Saturday, October 12, 2013, from 5:00-8:00 pm at Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, RI.
