Parke Gillette Burgess, 90, of Newport died Friday, October 16, 2015 at Village House Nursing Home of Newport, RI. He was the husband of the late Katherine (McCaw) Burgess.Born in Philadelphia, PA on February 24, 1925 he was the son of the late Herbert and Anna Burgess. Dr. Burgess served in the United States Marines during World War II. He received his PhD in speech and communications and taught at Queens College in Flushing, NY. Dr. Burgess was a music lover, who sang in the church choir and played the French Horn and Trombone.He is survived by his children, Katrina Burgess of Medford, MA, Parke Burgess, Jr. of Tacoma, WA, David Burgess of New Haven, CT, Frances Strotz and Ellen Strotz Macieiski of Illinois, Ann Pence of Alaska, and his brother Herbert Burgess of New Mexico.He was the brother of the late James Burgess.A Memorial service will be held at the Tufts University Interfaith Center, 58 Winthrop Street, Medford, MA on Sunday, November 15, at 11:00 am.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Special Olympics, 1133 19th Street NW, Washington, DC 20036 Service NOV 15. 11:00 AM Tufts University Interfaith Center 58 Winthrop St Medford, MA, US
