Portsmouth, RI ? Dr. Robert Alston Davidson, DDS, 63, loving husband, father and grandfather, died Monday, May 8, 2006, at Charlton Memorial Hospital, Fall River, MA. He was the husband of Rosemary Shrude Davidson. Born in Brockton, MA, on February 15, 1943, he was the son of the late Alston Quimby and M. Dorothy Nyrell Davidson.Dr. Davidson was a 1961 graduate of Brockton High School, a 1965 graduate of Springfield College and a 1969 graduate of Temple University School of Dentistry. After graduating from Temple University he went on to join the United States Navy Dental Corps, serving from 1969 to 1971, during the Vietnam War. In 1971 he opened his own dental practice in Tiverton, which is now in Ledgewood Commons and also stayed in the Navy Reserves. Dr. Davidson was a member of the American Dental Association and the Rhode Island Dental Association. He was a past member of the Portsmouth Lions Club, Chairman of the 1976 Bicentennial Celebration in Portsmouth, he coached girls Little League softball in Portsmouth and served on the original Glen Park Committee. Dr. Davidson was an avid fisherman and founder and president of Vise Squad Fly Rodders Club and a member of the United Fly Tyers and Trout Unlimited. He was also an avid skier, boater and craftsman. Besides his wife of 41 years, he is survived by his daughters Laurie Spaner and her husband Craig, Lisa Parsons and her husband Andrew, and Krista Dooley and her husband Lee all of Portsmouth, RI, his brother Donald W. Davidson of Dennisport, MA, and his grandchildren Adam, Justin, and Kayla Parsons, Kathryn and Nicholas Spaner, and Maxwell and Mason Dooley. His funeral will be held on Friday, May 12, 2006, at 10:00a.m. from the Connors Funeral Home, 55 West Main Road, Portsmouth, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00a.m. in St. Barnabas Church, 1697 East Main Road, Portsmouth. Burial will be in Trinity Cemetery in Portsmouth.Calling hours will be held on Thursday, May 11, 2006, from 4-8p.m. in the Connors Funeral Home.
