Earl S. Smith, 70, of Newport passed away Sunday, September 25, 2016 at Heatherwood Nursing and Subacute Center of Newport with family by his side. He was the husband of the late Kathleen (Gregory) Smith. Mr. Smith was born in the Albany Memorial Hospital in Albany, NY, son of the late Grant and Audrey (Brooks) Smith and was raised in Menands, NY.Earl served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War having received a Purple Heart. He owned and operated D and J TV in Wakefield, RI for over 14 years.His memberships have included the Elks Lodge #104 in Newport, All-Vets Club, the Sportsman Club and the D.A.V.. He was a proud owner of a Harley Davidson and member of the Viking Riders. Earl's hobbies included working with stain glass and gardening.He leaves his two daughters: Heather A. Lancaster of Newport and Tracy Kuzminsky and her husband Michael of Rosewell, GA, his grandchildren and his pride and joys Kylee Hammond, Lauren Kuzminsky, Nicole Connell and Jody Lancaster, his great grandchildren Patrick Jr. and Madelyn ConnellHe is also survived by two brothers Grant Smith and George Smith both of Menands, NY.Calling hours will be held Saturday, October 1, 2016 from 1:00 to 3:00pm in the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, RI. A memorial service will follow at 3:00pm in the funeral home.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made through www.justgive.org/earlsmith.
