Tiverton, RI - Earle William Stewart, 88, formerly of Laura Lane, Tiverton, RI, died Thursday, December 16, 2010 at Sakonnet Bay Manor in Tiverton, RI. Born in Jamestown, RI on October 25, 1922, he was the son of the late James E. and Mabel Larkin Stewart.Mr. Stewart served in the United States Navy during World War II in signal operations. Earle and his first wife, Norma Hathaway Stewart were the proud parents of two daughters. Their younger daughter, Wendy Larkin Stewart, pre-deceased Earle by one day. His family believes that he was finally able to release after several years of his own chronic illness to go and be with her. He was a Tiverton businessman who founded, owned and operated Tiverton Insurance Agency with colleagues Benjamin Chace and Leslie Hudson, retiring in 1981. In 1975 he married Patricia Carroll Lima also of Tiverton, and together they nurtured a loving blended family of seven, who were teens and young adults at the time of their marriage. Besides his wife of 35 years, he is survived by his daughter, Leslie S. Simonson and her husband Charles of Tiverton, RI, son in law Joel Greenberg of New York, NY his step children, Constance Lima, Kristen Lima and Carroll Feather all of Tiverton, RI, Henry Lima Jr. of Larbert, Scotland and James Lima of New York City, NY, his granddaughter, Mary Simonson Burch, his great grandchildren Alana Burch and Aidan Burch, his step grandchildren, Max Toste, Robin Toste Diotte and Ian Toste and his step great grandchildren, Beverly Diotte and Pearl Toste. He was the brother of the late Donald Stewart and Audrey Stewart Panek. Earle s first love was his family. But he also enjoyed salt-water fishing, RV camping and traveling; card games, hosting holiday gatherings and putting his many handyman skills to building, maintaining and repairing whatever need his attention. He was an active Mason for much of his adult life, as a member of St. John s Lodge in Portsmouth, RI and the Washington Commandery of Fall River, Massachusetts.Calling hours will be held in the Connors Funeral Home, 55 West Main Road, Portsmouth, RI on Monday, December 20, 2010 from 6 -8 pm. A Memorial service will be held on Tuesday, December 21, 2010 at 11:00am in Amicable Church, 3804 Main Road, Tiverton, RI. A luncheon reception will follow in the church s upper hall. Burial will be private.
