Edith L. Braman

May 24, 1935 — February 3, 2025

Edith L. Braman, a cherished member of the Newport community, passed away peacefully on February 3, 2025, at the age of 89. Born in Newport, RI, she was the daughter of the late Roger P. and Jean I. (Bull) Braman, and granddaughter of the late Packer and Emeline Braman.

Edith spent her childhood growing up in Middletown, where she developed a deep love for the beauty and history that would define her life. In her youth, she found joy riding her horse along the picturesque beaches, a pastime that surely reflected the vibrant spirit of a woman who embraced life to the fullest. A proud graduate of Rogers High School, she furthered her education at Colby Sawyer College in New Hampshire, earning a Bachelor's degree that led her to a devoted career as a nurse at Newport Hospital.

For many years, Edith's compassionate spirit touched countless lives as she cared for her patients at the hospital. Retirement did not slow her down; instead, she embraced a new adventure by starting her own cab driving business in Newport, where she passionately showcased the city's stunning sights and rich history to visitors and locals alike. Her love for Newport was evident in her daily walks through town, where she relished each opportunity to connect with neighbors and share stories of the city she adored.

Edith was an avid reader and an enthusiastic history buff who found joy in the historical narratives woven into the fabric of Newport. Edith delighted in the tales of the town and its picturesque sights, often bringing neighborhoods to life with her engaging conversations. A lover of nature, she spent many peaceful moments birdwatching, nurturing her love for all creatures, particularly her beloved cat.

Following the death of her parents, she bought a home in Newport where she lived until her death. She absolutely loved Newport, and was often seen walking throughout the town in her later years, taking in the beauty and history she cherished.

Edith is survived by her siblings; Mary Hoffman, of Richmond, RI, Roger P. Braman Jr., of Middletown, RI, and her nieces; Alison Ward and Amy Friel, both of Richmond, RI.
