Edith Brawner

Middletown, RI - Edith Pivarcsik Brawner, 82, of 44 Phelps Road, Middletown, RI, died Saturday, November 7, 2009, at Village House Nursing Home, Newport, RI.She was the wife of Volney Edward Brawner.Born in New Brunswick, New Jersey, on July 9, 1927, she was the daughter of the late John Herbert and Mabel Hull Pivarcsik.Mrs. Brawner was a homemaker and long time baby sitter for many local children. Edie was a longtime member of the former St. Georges Church in Newport, were she was an active and dedicated parishioner.Besides her husband of 63 years, she is survived by her son Volney E. Brawner, Jr. and his wife Cheryl W. of Portsmouth, RI, her son Michael J. Brawner and his wife Maureen of Gales Ferry, CT, five grandchildren, Kristen Hughes and her husband James of Tiverton, RI, Craig Brawner and his wife Christina of Bristol, RI, Emily Brawner, Megan Brawner, and Kevin Brawner all of Gales Ferry, CT, and a great grandson Cole Hughes of Tiverton, RI.She is preceded in death by her brother, Raymond Gardner.A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, November 11, at 11:00am in St. Marys Episcopal Church, 324 East Main Road, Portsmouth.Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society of Rhode Island, 931 Jefferson Blvd., Suite 3004, Warwick, RI 02886 , or to the American Diabetes Association, 222 Richmond Street, Suite 204, Providence, RI 02903.
