Edith Mixter of Middletown, RI, passed away on May 19, 2014 at John Clark Retirement Center. She was the daughter of Ann and John Walden. She leaves her son and daughter-in-law, John and Susanne Mixter of Portsmouth, RI, and her son-in-law, Robert Gelina of Middletown, RI, husband to daughter Lauren, previously deceased. She is survived by her granddaughters Kimberly Meinweiser and Kristie Quinn and their spouses. She had four great-grandchildren, Sam Quinn, Madison, Quinn, Caden Meinweiser and Isabel Meinweiser. Edy treasured her granddaughters and shared so much of herself with them. After high school graduation, Edy worked for Interstate United Newspapers in New York before joining the U.S. Navy Waves during World War II. She went to school to study Morse Code in Oxford, Ohio, then on to Bainbridge Island in Washington to study Japanese code. Once retired, she married and moved to Newport, RI where her son and daughter were born.Edy worked at the Colonial Ice Cream Parlor for many years, brightening customer's day with her witty sense of humor and charm. After retiring, she moved to West House in Middletown, RI where she was active socially and made many wonderful friends.A private memorial service will be held.
