Edith Mae Strother

Edith Mae Strother, 77, of Newport, RI died on Sunday, June 15 at the Heatherwood Nursing Home. She was born in Newport on June 22, 1936 to the late Daniel Lee Strother and Harriet Elizabeth (Hammett) Strother. Edith worked many different jobs over the years, always preferring to stay busy. She was trained as a machinist as Quonset Point, and worked at Quonset for many years. She enjoyed Judo and boxing in her younger years. She was a loyal member of the Mt. Zion Church, and was a member of the former Mt. Olivet Church.She is survived by her son Juan Rick Strother and two grandsons.Services will be held on Friday, June 20 at 10:00am in the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport. Burial will follow in Newport Memorial Park.
