Edith G. Streeter, 96, of Newport, RI died peacefully with family by her side on June 6, 2015 at St. Clare's Nursing Home. She was the wife of the late Lawrence E. Streeter. She was born on July 16, 1918 in Newport, RI to the late Lena Davis and Owen Higgins. Edith raised both her children in Newport. During World War II, Edith worked at the Torpedo Station, Goat Island. She also worked at GE Monauwatt and Newport Hospital. For many years she served on the Altar Guild and for various activities at St. John's Episcopal Church. Edith was an avid reader of books and enjoyed sewing. She also liked to walk and spend time at the Blue Rocks looking over the bay.Edith leaves behind, her son Lawrence Streeter of Arvada, CO, and five grandchildren, Kristen Seyster of Middletown, RI, George Canonizado of Mechanicsburg, PA, Kimberly Bartlett, Sharee Shivers, Jodi McGiver all of Colorado. She also leaves behind eleven great grand children, including the forever-loved Heather Shivers, and eleven great-great grandchildren.She was the mother of the late Geraldine L. Canonizado and the sister of the late Myrtle O'Connor and Wesley Higgins. Church services and burial will be private. In lieu of flowers please make donations in remembrance of Edith Streeter to the St. Jude's Children's Hospital 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105 or Shriners Hospital for Children 2900 Rocky Point Drive Tampa Fl. 33607.
