Edith Winifred Sherman

NEWPORT, RI - Edith W. Humes Sherman, 91, of 1 Maitland Court, Newport, RI, passed away on Monday, June 20, 2005, at Grand Islander Health Care Center, Middletown, RI. She was the wife of the late Everett C. Sherman, to whom she had been married for 51 years. Born in Newport, RI on June 5, 1914, to the late Robert and Edith Goff Humes. Edith was a life-long member of Trinity Church. As a young woman she was a Sunday school teacher. Edith enjoyed knitting, especially infant clothing that she would give to friends, the church and the hospital. At one time she was a ?Master? of the word search puzzles. She also enjoyed watching soap operas. She is survived by her daughters Eleanor ?Ellie? Sherman and E. Anne Sherman both of Newport, RI, and her grand dog ?Alicia?. Along with her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brothers Charles ?Chuck? Humes and Robert ?Bill? Humes. Her funeral will be held on Friday, June 24, 2005, at 11:00AM, in the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport. Burial will be in Trinity Cemetery in Portsmouth following the service.Calling hours will be held on June 23, 2005, from 4-7pm in the funeral home.
