Newport, RI - Edmund J. Ward (Ed), 71, of Mill Street, Newport, formerly of Middletown, RI, died Thursday, October 10, 2013 at the Village House Nursing Rehabilitation Center in Newport. Born in Fall River, MA on December 27, 1941, he was the son of the late William E. Ward and Theresa (Iamarone) Ward. Ed grew up in Fall River and attended Northeastern University where he earned a Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering. He enlisted in the US Army in 1967 and served three years stationed in Germany. Ed worked as an electronics engineer in the Combat Systems Department at NUSC for 35 years. After retiring from the civil service, he worked part time at the Newport Yachting Center for 5 years. In his free time, he enjoyed travelling the world having visited all 50 states and numerous countries. He was a connoisseur of fine wines, a fan of the X-Files and the New York Giants, and enjoyed long drives in his Miata sports car. He is survived by his children, Theresa Rebello and her husband Steven of Warren, Michael Ward and his former wife Darlene of Middletown, Matthew Ward and his wife Jennifer of Bristol, and Hilary Ward of Portsmouth; six grandchildren, Alexa, Andrew, Rachael, Patrick, Jacob and Annabelle; a brother Thomas Ward of Delray Beach, FL; and his former spouse Dorothy Huss of Portsmouth. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, October 17, at 10:00AM in St. Marys Church, Spring Street, Newport.
