Edna M. Slevin

Middletown, RI - Edna M. Marstin Slevin, 94, of Forest Farm Health Care Center, Middletown, RI, formerly of Aquidneck Place, Portsmouth, RI, Clermont, FL and Chatham, NJ, died Tuesday, November 27, 2007 at Forest Farm Health Care Center, Middletown, RI. She was the wife of the late John J. Slevin. Born in Cullen, VA on September 1, 1913, she was the daughter of the late William Thomas and Anne Williams Marstin.Mrs. Slevin enjoyed music, especially singing. During the 1930?s, she preformed with her sister and brother in law on the radio as the group The Palmer Hawaiians. After completing nursing school in Catawba, VA, she moved to New York City and worked as a private duty nurse in the early 1940?s. It was there that she met her future husband John, with whom she enjoyed 45 years of marriage until his death in 1988. She is survived by her son John Slevin of West Orange, NJ, her daughters Jacqueline S. Janicki of Portsmouth, RI, and Patricia Sherwood of Moorpark, CA, her grandchildren Christopher Slevin, Molly Slevin, Sarah Janicki, Jason Janicki, Timothy Janicki and Daniel Sherwood.She was the grandmother of the late John Sherwood and the sister of the late Charles ?Mac? Marstin, Russell Marstin, John Marstin, William Marstin, Bertha Hild and Nancy Palmer. Her funeral will be held on Saturday, December 1, 2007, at 10:00 am from the Connors Funeral Home, 55 West Main Road, Portsmouth, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am in St. Lucys Church, 909 West Main Road, Middletown. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in Clermont, FL.Calling hours will be held on Friday, November 30, 2007, from 4-7pm in the funeral home.
